Scholarly & Trade Journals

scholarly articlesThe databases below contain a wide range of source types, so limiting to just scholarly journal articles (also called academic journal articles, or just journal articles) is important. These articles are written by scholars or experts in a given field (such as historians) for others in the same field. They are researched based, often fairly long, include a good deal of references, and often report out on original research.

Journals (and all the research articles published in them), can often undergo an extra editing process. When this happens, the articles in the journal are considered to be peer-reviewed, or refereed. Click on the next tabs to learn more about how to search for articles, limiting by source type, and, when needed, peer-reviewed articles.
