Accessing Puget Sound Public Libraries

A guide on how to access various local public library systems.

King County Library System (KCLS)

Signing Up for a King County Library System Card

There are two ways to access King County Library System resources. Both are outlined in detail just below. Follow these step-by-step instructions to easily sign up for a King County Library System card!

Signing Up for an eCard:

With an eCard, you can use the online library of eBooks, magazines, films, and music; access online classes, tutorials, language lessons, test prep, and certification; and search databases, do research and find business and investment information. Apply for a King County Library System eCard by filling out an online application here:

The application asks you to provide:

  • Your email
  • Your full name
  • Your address (to verify you are within the area served by the King County Library System)
  • Your phone number
  • Your date of birth
  • Your preferred library location

As long as you are on a webpage with a web address that begins with "kcls.org" it is safe to provide this information!

Signing Up for an All-access Library Card

You can apply for an All-Access library card in person or online. When you fill out the application form, you can choose to pick up your physical card in person or have it mailed to you. You will need to have a photo ID showing your name and address. If you recently moved to King County and your current photo ID does not reflect an address in the area, bring another document (such as a piece of mail addressed to you at a King County address) with you when you go to retrieve your card. If you opt to receive your card in the mail, you will also be mailed instructions on how to complete your registration.
