Tacoma Public Library (TPL)
Signing Up for a Tacoma Public Library Card
There are two ways to access Tacoma Public Library (TPL) resources. Both are outlined in detail just below. Follow these step-by-step instructions to easily sign up for a Tacoma Public Library card!
Signing Up for an eCard
eCards are valid for 6 months after you sign up and cannot be renewed. With an eCard, you can access online databases, borrow eBooks and audiobooks, stream music and movies/TV, and borrow up to three physical items at once. Once you sign up for an eCard you can visit any Tacoma Public Library branch to receive a physical library card which will enhance your access to TPL resources! Apply for a Tacoma Public Library eCard by filling out an online application here:
The application asks you to provide:
- Your email
- Your full name
- Your address (to verify you are within the area served by the Tacoma Public Library)
- Your phone number
- Your date of birth
As long as you are on a webpage with a web address that begins with "tacomapubliclibrary.org," it is safe to provide this information!
Signing Up for a Physical Library Card
Visit any TPL location and tell a librarian you'd like to sign up for a library card. You will need to bring a photo ID with your name and address. If you recently moved to Tacoma and your current photo ID does not reflect an address in Tacoma, bring another document (such as a piece of mail addressed to you at a Tacoma address) with you when you go to sign up.
