This guide was created for staff and faculty at TCC. The TCC library has a great collection of print and electronic sources for a wide array of professional development topics.

Library Mission
The Library's mission extends a philosophy of ‘Open’ through teaching, conversation, and community.
The Library accomplishes this by:
- teaching and promoting information literacy
- collecting and providing access to relevant and diverse academic resources
- providing a welcoming and supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff
- demonstrating through all library services and resources an openness to and ability to engage with divergent perspectives
- employing a range of open information practices, including OER, open licensing, and open pedagogy

Supporting Black Lives Matter

The Board of Trustees of Tacoma Community College reaffirms our commitment to eliminating systemic racism, and to standing with Black students, faculty, staff, and the Black community. Specifically, we commit to the following actions:
- Actively listen to Black students, faculty, and staff
- Take action to address their concerns and recommendations
- Review systems, policies, and procedures to root out systemic barriers and biases
- Provide professional development that will increase cultural competence and eliminate racism, bias and other forms of discrimination
- Hire racially diverse faculty and staff
- As a governing board, actively monitor progress

Supporting our LGBTQIA Population at TCC

- TCC's Safe Zone TrainingMore than 100 TCC faculty and staff have completed Safe Zone training, and have committed themselves to being Allies & Advocates. All library faculty, and many staff have completed Safe Zone training. Look for the Safe Zone Sticker!
You will find additional information to support the LGBTQ+ population, namely within the higher education environment within the tabs of this guide. However, the guide linked below has been created by TCC librarians to help support the LGBTQ+ population and allies. There you will find a list of resources both online, and in TCC's electronic and print collections. Suggestions for local resources or items to be added to the library's collection are always welcomed!
