Why use websites in your research?
Why use websites?
Websites are the most accessible sources for research, having a format with the ability to reach across the globe to people with internet access. Convenience is a major reason for using websites in research, and many journals, publishers, organizations, and authors have taken this opportunity to reach out to the public by utilizing websites and other digital means. Websites are also a major gateway to publications from non-profit organizations and government agencies.
The flip side of using websites:
But with convenience comes risk for users -- you have to make sure you evaluate sources thoroughly, particularly sources online! Why? Because both individuals and groups can create websites and write about anything they choose--whether or not they have the education, training, or experience to make them experts.

- Stanford Encyclopedia of PhilosophyAll entries and substantive updates are created by experts in the field and refereed by the members of an editorial board.
- Internet Encyclopedia of PhilosophyThe purpose of the IEP is to provide detailed, scholarly, peer-reviewed information on key topics and philosophers in all areas of academic philosophy.
- Ask PhilosophersA panel of 91 philosophers respond to questions. "...On the one hand, everyone confronts philosophical issues throughout his or her life. But on the other, very few have the opportunity to learn about philosophy, a subject that is usually taught only at the college level. Professional philosophy associations
- American Philosophical Association"Promotes the discipline and profession of philosophy, both within the academy and in the public arena. The APA supports the professional development of philosophers at all levels and works to foster greater understanding and appreciation of the value of philosophical inquiry.
- American Association of Philosophy TeachersA "non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the art of teaching philosophy. Established in 1976, it supports the continuing professional development of the skills of its members with a newsletter, online discussion forum, blogs, and the collection of teaching resources"
