Find Overview Articles Using Gale Ebooks

Since Gale eBooks is a database of "quick look up" or reference resources, you can expect to find extensive general background information about topics. Think about the general topic you would like to research, and keep your search terms simple. Here is an example of a search that a student might do when researching a paper on the transition from silent movies to "talkies", and how movie music changed as a result.

Example Search

This student is just beginning their research so has decided to find out what they can about music in film in general with the following search.

As shown in the image below, the various sections featured show the information you'd need to cite the source - such as the title, the larger book title source, the date, etc. As well as the link to have the database generate an MLA or APA citation for you.

Example Titles

The titles/covers featured below are just a few examples of the reference books you can expect to find in Gale Ebooks. You can "Browse Collections" in the Arts, and search within each of these publications separately, though generally, we would recommend that you simply perform a general search as demonstrated elsewhere on this page.
