English 102 APA Persuasive Paper 

Write a 6–8-page paper (this does not include the title page, visuals, or References) that explains the climate change or sustainability problem or issue that you are addressing, the research you have found about it, possible solutions or actions, and possible obstacles to or problems with those solutions (if they are any). For instance, if you were researching the benefits of LEDs you might run into some questions about their negative effects on migrating birds and on insects. Or if you are looking at electric cars, you might find some concerns about how we are going to source the lithium that is needed for the batteries. Those are what I mean by "obstacles or problems.” 

Think of your audience for this paper as other people in the class who don’t know about your topic. They do understand the issue of climate change, though, so you do not need to explain that information. You are trying to engage their interest and possibly motivate them to act.  

You will need to use at least 8 sources, two of which must be from scholarly or peer-reviewed journals. The other sources need to be credible, but they can be other articles in the databases that are not scholarly, information from credible websites (use .edu or .gov sites when possible), or information from films/videos (such as TED talks--you should search for your topic in TED Talks as there are so many good ones on climate change and sustainability). You can use the topic you found articles for, or you can change your topic, but please check with me if you do decide to change topics!  

You will need to use at least one quotation and at least one paraphrase from each of your sources, each of which must be cited using the APA in-text citation method. You also need to include at least two visuals. They can be pictures, graphics, graphs, maps, charts, or tables. These are a way to appeal to the audience using pathos (remember back to Heather Price's lecture). Please cite the visual with the creator/author's last name and the date beneath the visual. You can explain the visual underneath it if you wish. The paper must be in APA format and include a title page, an abstract, and a References page.
