As of January 20, 2025 there are sweeping changes to immigration, migration and deportation policies, and to the practices of Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, U.S. Armed Forces, and local law enforcement within the scope of their duties. At the most current update of this guide, February 12, 2025, there are many questions that remain unanswered about the scope of and the legality of proposed changes. Most links to resources in this guide will lead to updated information, but you should always check when any resource has been last updated before accepting the information that you find there.
Below is a 6-minute video offering strategies about how to search for up-to-date information about immigrant, migrant, and refugee law and status in the United States.

The TCC Library holds thousands of e-books relevant to topics in immigration. You can find books about immigration history and policy in the United States and in other parts of the world. You can also find books about the immigrant experience, the politics and economics of immigration, the ethics and human rights of immigration, and much more.*
To start, and find out what kind of books you might be interested in, you can search using a single key word: immigration
*Note that books take a while to write and publish, so they are not often as up-to-date as a government webpage! Books are a great resource for exploring a topic in-depth, often with historical content, and are not intended to provide information about current changes. If you need current up-to-date information about immigration policy and law, see the collection of resources linked in the rest of this guide.
