Class theme and guiding questions

The overall theme in this ENGL& 101 course is "Music in Society," and it includes the following essential questions:

  1. What role has music played in our personal lives, families, and communities?
  2. How does music affect or interact with our learning, development, and work as individuals?
  3. What has research shown about the biological effects of music on the brain and our bodies?
  4. How does both listening to and creating music create a shared sense of community?
  5. What role does music play in social movements, both historically and in the present?

All of the resources on this libguide were compiled by your class librarian to relate to these essential questions.

For example, the TED Talk video below relates to the question about music and its biological effects on our brains.
