HUM 101: Chen-Johnson, M. (Spring 2025): Websites

This guide provides starting point resources for students' Final Project about the arts in their hometown in this HUM 101 course.

Websites resources for your research project

Use the guidance below to find websites for your research project.

Those whose hometowns are smaller and less well known may or may not find anything using library resources. Instead, you might use the guidance below to help you find information about visual art, dance, theater, music, or poetry on the open web (i.e. via Google).

In addition to what is listed below, you might also check the website for your public library in your hometown to see it is has collections featuring local artists. Local newspapers are also great sources of information about local artists (check the arts and/or entertainment section). Finally, you might check to see if your hometown has a website, which typically provides some brief history and may also highlight local artists.

Websites for finding information about hometown artists

Art galleries and museum websites can be great places to find information about local visual artists. Once you've identified specific artists, you might also Google their names to see if they have a personal website. Also consider searching public library, local newspaper, and city/town websites for more information.

Example Google searches (you can replace "Tacoma" with the name of your hometown):

  • "Art museums AND Tacoma
  • "Local artists" AND Tacoma

Dance companies will often include biographies about their directors, choreographers, dancers, etc. on their websites. Once you've identified specific artists, you might also Google their names to see if they have a personal website.
