ENGL 101: Sandin, J. (Spring 2024): Books

Library catalog

Searching the Catalog

Once you've found general, background information on your topic, it's time to find more in-depth information. One way is to find books that you can check out at the TCC Library. You can search the library catalog for books by clicking the link below.

Electronic books

Accessing eBooks

If you use the catalog, some of the items listed will be electronic books (e-books). These books can be read with any web browser -- no need to download an e-reader app!

An e-book record looks like this:
  1. Each e-book has an "E" symbol beside the "Format" heading.
  2. Read the e-books online by clicking the link at the bottom of the record, under the "Electronic access" heading.

Note that if you may need to log-in to read the e-book online. If a log-in screen pops up, then use the same username and password you use to log into the MyTCC portal.

Why use books in your research?

Books can give you the in-depth analysis of your topic

Books...
  • can get you a historical perspective on your topic to see how it has evolved over time
  • often are written by authors who are experts or have taken the time to do research on a particular subject
  • help you understand the complexity your topic
When you find a book...
  • you do not have to read the whole book! Instead look at the table of contents in the front to find which chapters will be most helpful to you
  • look in the back of the book.  Often there is a list of sources that the author consulted when he or she wrote the book.  You might want to use these sources for your research, too!
