ANTH 204: Jenkins, K. (Fall 2022): Finding books and e-books in the TCC Library catalog

Introduction

Don't forget that you can use books and e-books as sources in your Site Report research project. The boxes below will show you how to search for books in the TCC Library catalog. 

If you have questions, ask a librarian.

Search for books and e-books in the TCC Library catalog (it's OK to copy this box and change examples/wording)

Once you've found general, background information on your topic, it's time to find more in-depth information. One way is to find books that you can check out at the TCC Library or e-books that you can read online. You can search the library catalog for books by doing a keyword search (e.g., "bilingual education" or "drug abuse") by clicking the link below.

Click the link below to search for books in the library catalog:

Search tips:

  1. Type in your keywords in the search box and click the "Search" button
  2. Take note of the format of the results. You can narrow down to print books or e-books by clicking one of the boxes.
  3. Take note of the publication date range. You can narrow down results to a specific data range.
  4. Click the title of the book for more detailed info
  5. Take note of the format of the book. An e-book will have an "E" icon; a print book will have a book icon.
  6. If it's an e-book, then you can click the "Electronic access" link to read the book online.
  7. You can also text any book record to yourself.

E-books

Accessing Electronic Books

If you use the catalog, some of the items listed will be electronic books (e-books). These books can be read with any web browser -- no need to download an e-reader app!

An e-book record looks like this:
  1. Each e-book has an "E" symbol beside the "Format" heading.
  2. Read the e-books online by clicking the link at the bottom of the record, under the "Electronic access" heading.

Note that if you may need to log-in to read the e-book online. If a log-in screen pops up, then use the same username and password you use to log into the MyTCC portal.


E-book table of contents:

Once you open an e-book, you will notice there are many ways to work with the book, including opening and scrolling through the Table of Contents:

  • In some cases, your search will result in a specific chapter or subsection relevant to your needs
  • You can click on chapter titles to go straight to that chapter
