How to Use Topic Tools in Library Databases

This TCC Library video tutorial highlights topic tools in 3 different library databases (Gale eBooks, Points of View Reference Center, and CQ Researcher) to help you explore potential topics -- and potential resources! -- at the same time.

Topic Finder in Gale eBooks Library

Start with a Simple Keyword Search
  • Type in a keyword related to your topic -- start simple!
  • Then click on the "Start the Topic Finder" button

Visualization Graphic

The default visualization method is tiles, but you can also choose the wheel option. Click on a keyword tile to explore and narrow down your topic. You can develop your topic, collect additional keywords, and find some potential articles all at the same time!

  • Scroll down the home page of this database to explore the Explore Topics options
  • Or click on the "All Debate Topics" link to view a list of all the categories in alphabetical order

Remember that the CQ Researcher database has in-depth, original reports on current events and political issues

  • View the options under the Browse By topical section to explore broad topics. Or click on the Browse CQR tab in the top menu.
  • You will see a list of topical areas and can explore reports by date, issue, etc.
