In databases, you can narrow down your options to peer-reviewed articles. In the box below are a few good starting options, but you can also see all of the TCC library research databases via the link below.
The publishers of ProQuest make this simple. Choose the advanced search option and as you begin, simply click the peer-reviewed limiter box.
Academic Search Complete, CINAHL and PsycARTICLES (all published by EbscoHost) contain many peer-reviewed articles. However, there is not a simple limit to apply to just peer-reviewed articles.
See the step by step instructions below for discovering which articles are peer-reviewed. For the examples below, I searched the Academic Search Complete database.
Begin by typing your keywords in the search boxes.
On the results page, look at the left menu column and limit your results of the search to academic journals.
Once you have an article of interest, click on its TITLE to get this screen, then click on the source (journal title)
Check the "Peer Reviewed" field at the bottom. If it says "Yes," then your article is peer-reviewed!
Google Scholar can be a good place to search for scholarly articles; however, Stanford University open resource expert, John Willinsky, estimates that only about 23% of articles are freely available via Google Scholar.
If you like the search capabilities of Google, you might consider identifying your articles there and then checking with a librarian about how to determine if they are peer-reviewed and how to get those that are not freely available.
Every article in JSTOR comes from a scholarly journal, which includes many (but not all) peer-reviewed articles.
ScienceDirect includes scholarly articles, which include many peer-reviewed articles.
