Artist report assignment

The following description of your assignment comes from Professor Mahaffey, however the highlighting comes from your librarian, Heather Gillanders. If you have question about your assignment, please contact Professor Mahaffey.

Artist Report Assignment

Each student will create a report on two artists whose work is from the same Art Movement. You will include slides of the work of those artists that fits the Art Movement (some artists have worked in more than one style or movement). Make sure that the time frame of the works fits the time frame of the movement. Include 8-12 slides of each artists work. You can add more slides if you feel it will help make your report more clear.  (There is a list of suggested artists if you don't have an artist that you want to report on in this module.)

It is important that you tell us what it is about the movement that makes it unique. Is it a philosophical approach, the way the paint is applied, or the stone sculpted or is it some other thing that can help us tell which movement the works are from? Also, tell us if there is a companion movement in literature, music, or fashion. If you feel that something about the artist’s life is important, tell us. We want to know what you learn that is important about the art.

In the past reports have sometimes included a bit of music or a short clip from a video (Keep it to under a minute). You may include that if you think it will make your report better and help us understand more about your artists or the movement of which they are part. You will make a video recording using either YouTube or Panopto. If you use YouTube you will make an unlisted video that way it will be impossible to find by others. You do not have to appear in the video as long as we can hear your voice. As part of this assignment you will send 2-3 questions that I might use on the final exam. Include the answers. If it is a multiple choice question include at least 4 options (a, b, c, d) and indicate the correct answer in some way.

Be sure to use MLA citations for all of your sources. Use the Research Guide for this class to help you create the correct citations. The Guide also has a section on evaluating resources. Educational Institutions and Museums are usually excellent sources of correct information. Be careful with Wikipedia which sometimes has incomplete or wrong information posted. The reports are due late in the quarter.
